A GUITAR HARVEST
While everyone is harvesting corn and wheat, Echoes will harvest guitars for a pair of special Echoes Living Room Concerts for Thanksgiving.
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH WILLIAM EATON
William Eaton is a guitarist and guitar luthier who has invented several stringed instruments that not only have an amazing sound, but are works of visual art. He's created hybrid instruments like the Koto-harp Guitar, 26-String guitar and the 31 stringed, O'ele'n Strings and the Lyre-Harp Guitar. They all look like lost artifacts of a highly evolved alien culture. Eaton deploys his instruments in an exotic world chamber fusion that draws its rhythms from the middle east and Africa, its melodies from India and Appalachia and its atmosphere right out of the desert southwest where Eaton lives. He's recorded albums with Native flute icon R. Carlos Nakai and has several solo CDs on the Canyon label. His latest is a double CD called SPARKS & EMBERS. In this concert for an Echoes Thanksgiving, Eaton brings together his group, including percussionist Will Clipman, flutist Claudia Tulip, and violinist Allen Ames, weaving global themes with Native accents, a music that can draw a lineage to the first Thanksgiving dinner.
A GUITAR HARVEST WITH DAVID CULLEN, GARY LUCAS, DAVID PATTERSON AND BENJAMIN VERDERY
These four artists appear on a new double CD, GUITAR HARVEST, a collection of guitar virtuosos. We'll hear short sets from four artists on that disc including David Cullen, longtime William Ackerman accompanist with several solo albums to his credit. Gary Lucas started in Captain Beefheart's Magic Band and went on to write for Jeff Buckley among others. David Patterson is founder of the New World Guitar Trio. Benjamin Verdery has recorded in a duo with Craig Peyton and has several solo albums to his name. We'll hear their variations on an instrument that has defined American music since there was an America, the acoustic guitar, as well as one electric direction.
