INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 03/12
AN INTERVIEW WITH HAMMOCK: AMBIENT AMERICANA SHOEGAZERS
Nashville duo talks about an atmospheric guitar landscape
Hammock is a little known duo from Nashville, though both Andrew Thompson and Marc Byrd are players on that city's booming music scene. On their own, they create guitar driven orchestrations of ambient sound heard recently on their January Echoes CD of the Month, Raising Your Voice... Trying to Stop An Echo. They talk about a music born of loss, awakening and musical experimentation.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH JON DURANT
An ambient guitarist creates looping soundscapes live

Jon Durant is a Boston area guitarist who has been creating ambient guitar soundscapes for well over a decade. A fan of progressive rock, he has a range of guitar styles at his fingertips and dips them in loops and delays on his recent album, Flood. We hear him playing live in his basement studio.

Thursday 03/15
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH STATE OF GRACE
Gothic hymns in a modern world

State of Grace came on the scene a few years ago with Lisbeth Scott intoning gothic hymns composed by Paul Schwartz. They've continued that theme over three elaborately produced albums. But while State of Grace's CDs are elaborately produced affairs with orchestras and synthesizers, Schwartz stripped it all down to a septet: piano, guitar, bass, cello, violin, drums and of course, the immaculate voice of Scott. Their live performance on Echoes maintains the gothic majesty of the songs, but in a powerful, intimate way.
