AN INTERVIEW WITH LOU REED: METAL MACHINE MEDITATIONS
Underground rock icon takes a meditative trip
You may not think of Lou Reed as a meditative kind of guy, but the founding member of The Velvet Underground and purveyor of proto-punk songs like "Walk on the Wild Side" has a new electronic CD designed for meditation and body work. A longtime devotee of Tai Chi, Lou Reed talks about his ambient spaces.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH SUMNER MCKANE
Ambient Americana in a Maine basement
Melodies flow so easily from Sumner McKane's electric guitar that its easy to over-look his extraordinary technique. But you'll hear it when he plays live in his basement studio. Joined by electric bassist Joshua Robbins, Sumner puts a bit of country twang into ambient atmospheres, playing music from his latest album, Two If By Sea.

AN INTERVIEW WITH DESERT DWELLERS: DIGITAL BEDOUINS
Electronic savants sample Eastern sounds
Desert Dwellers are something of an ad hoc group, with members in California and New Mexico who follow in the Trance-Indian grooves of artists like the Midival Punditz and Loop Guru, mixing Indian and Middle Eastern exotica into surreal and flowing soundscapes powered by the chilled grooves of electronic percussion, acoustic tablas, digital loops and raga cycles. We have a digital conversation with the band, whose album, Flames, was an Echoes CD of the Month in November.
