AN INTERVIEW WITH MELLODRAMA DIRECTOR DIANNA DILWORTH
A documentary film on the Mellotron & Chamberlin

The Mellotron was the sound of progressive rock and space music in the 1970s. Before digital synthesizers, it was an instrument that played back the sounds of orchestras, choirs, and more to generate the grandeur of The Moody Blues, Tangerine Dream, King Crimson and more. Dianna Dilworth has chronicled the birth of the Mellotron, going back to the late 1940s and the Chamberlin keyboard as well as its current revival. We talk to her about these instruments and their epic journey.

ECHOES THEN & NOW: ROBERT RICH
From sleep music to surrealism

Robert Rich has been a mainstay of Echoes from the beginning. He's one of the more cerebral musicians on the show, mixing sleep studies with ethno-techno designs distilled through minimalism and space music. As we near our 20th anniversary we look back at a musician whose distinctive sound moves from rainforest dreams to Gaudiesque cathedrals of sound.

We have music with old instruments. At least they are old by digital standards. Jeffrey Koepper specializes in music played on vintage analog synthesizers from the 1970s and 80s. His new album is Luminosity and it glows on Echoes.

AN ECHOES SUMMER SOLSTICE
Lunar symphonies and seasonal shifts

We head into the sun on the next Echoes with music to evoke the coming of summer and the day when night and light are equal. We'll hear music from Loreena McKennitt, Jerome Froese, and masters of seasonal sonic shifts like Paul Winter and George Winston.
