INTERVIEWS AND CONCERTS FOR THE WEEK

Monday 08/06
ECHOES AUGUST CD OF THE MONTH
RUSSEL WALDER: RISE

A former Windham Hill oboe player orchestrates an ambient chamber music masterpiece
Russel Walder was a mainstay of the 1980s instrumental music scene. He recorded on Windham Hill records as part of the Ira Stein/Russel Walder duo and guested on many of their records. After many years and emigration to New Zealand he's released a new solo CD that merges ambient chamber music designs with world music touches and accents of electronica. It's called Rise and it's our CD of the Month for August. Read the Review!

AN INTERVIEW WITH HAROLD BUDD & ROBIN GUTHRIE: SHOEGAZERS IN AMBIENCE
The originator of Dream Guitar returns to the avatar of Ambient Chamber Music

Harold Budd is the keyboardist who created the sound of ambient chamber music. As the guitarist of The Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie created dream guitar textures. The two musicians got together in the 1980s for the album The Moon and the Melodies and have reunited some 20 years later for the soundtrack to Mysterious Skin and a pair of atmospherically chilled albums, After the Night Falls and Before the Day Breaks. They were our CDs of the Month in June and now we talk with the musicians who made them.

A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH ROBERT RICH & IAN BODDY
Two electronic explorers converge in the Echoes living room for a synthesizer sound charge
Robert Rich and Ian Boddy are both veterans of the electronic music scene and they've recorded a pair of albums together, but they've never played together in concert until now. They launch a set of hitherto unrecorded soundscapes live.
