FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 9/10/01
ECHOES ROCKS
Echoes kicks out the jams in this special edition featuring music from four rock guitar legends, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. We hear a meditation in grunge from Alice In Chains and buff the heavy metal of Metallica. Echoes Rocks, but in an Echoes sort of way.

Wednesday 9/12/01
JEFF BEAL - DRIP PAINTING POLLOCK
Earlier this year, Ed Harris released POLLOCK, his harrowing film portrayal of painter Jackson Pollock. Creating the musical counterpoint to the troubled artist's psychological trauma and triumphal artistry is composer Jeff Beal. In his Southern California studio, Beal reveals the psychological undertow and minimalist influences of his acclaimed score, POLLOCK (Unitone).

Thursday 9/13/01
THOMAS BARQUEE'S IMAGINARY MEDITATIONS
We're used to hearing female singers like Lisa Gerrard, Vas's Azam Ali and Ekova's Diedre Dubois intoning lyrics in a language of the imagination. German born musician Thomas Barquee is one of the few male singers working in this domain. On his album, Temple, he creates imaginary meditations surrounding his voice with synthesizer orchestrations. Thomas Barquee talks about his hidden dialect on Echoes.

Friday 9/14/01
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH R. CARLOS NAKAI, WILLIAM EATON & WILL CLIPMAN
R. Carlos Nakai articulates a world between cultures. On his album, IN A DISTANT PLACE (Canyon), his Native flutes are entwined with Tibetan Nawang Khechog's flutes and voice, and morphed through the hybrid guitar string orchestrations of William Eaton and tribal rhythms of Will Clipman. Late this past Spring, Echoes conducted a pair of living room concerts in front of audiences of radio station KBSU in Boise, Idaho and Jefferson Public Radio in Ashland, Oregon. In a special one hour concert, Nakai, Eaton & Clipman find communion in their diverse voices and talk about a music between cultures.
