FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 9/17/01
EPIPHANY PROJECT
John Hodian says his primary musical influences are Steve Reich, Keith Jarrett and Joni Mitchel. So it's no surprise that Minimalism, jazz piano and singer-songwriter lyricism are all evident on EPIPHANY PROJECT, his collaboration with Bet Williams. Hodian is an accomplished pianist and composer, working in theater and documentary scoring. Williams is a singer- songwriter. They talk about the combining these two disparate worlds into the cyclical, atmospheric soundscapes of their new CD.

Tuesday 9/18/01
HANS ZIMMER-THE SOUND BEHIND THE IMAGES.
Hans Zimmer is a top soundtrack composer, scoring such Hollywood hits as Gladiator, Pearl Harbor and The Lion King. Director Ridley Scott said Zimmer's music provides THE WINGS OF A FILM and that's the title of a new CD featuring live performances of some of Zimmer's favorite pieces from his scores. Hans Zimmer talks about electronics, world music, and creating the sound that powers pictures.

Wednesday 9/19/01
PAT THOMI'S VIRTUAL PYRAMIDS
Pat Thomi is a guitar fusion demon who has played with Jean-Luc Ponty and Gino Vanelli. Thomi loves to shred molten electric guitar leads, but he also has a more contemplative side that emerges on a new CD called PYRAMIDS (Blue Blimp). We enter the inner chambers of Pat Thomi's studio where he reveals the hieroglyphs of his Pyramid designs.

Friday 9/21/01
CAROL TATUM-AN ANGEL ALONE
Carol Tatum wears the squadron leader's wings in the ANGELS OF VENICE, the southern California, global chamber music ensemble. Recently, she took a solo flight, recording MUSIC FOR HARP (Trine) with just herself on Celtic harp and lush synthesizer arrangements. It's another side to Tatum, highlighting her Early Music influences as well as nodding to her days as a heavy metal guitarist. She turns Metallica's NOTHING ELSE MATTERS into a pastoral reverie. In her San Fernando Valley home, Carol Tatum talks about her solo flight.
