FEATURES FOR THE WEEK

Monday 10/08/01
A LIVING ROOM CONCERT WITH TIM FARRELL
Finger-style guitar has been flourishing in the last 20 years, and few have mastered its intricacies like Tim Farrell. This Philadelphia area musician has been slowly building a following for the delicate melodies like those heard on his latest CD, SONGS FROM CLAROWOOD (Magrathea Music). Billboard Magazine called him "A guitarist to be heard." Tim takes a chair in the Echoes Living Room, and unfolds the meticulous moods of his new CD live on Echoes.

Tuesday 10/09/01
MICHAEL JON FINK'S ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS
Michael Jon Fink comes from the California school of minimalism which tends to be a bit cerebral and understated. On his album, I HEAR IT IN THE RAIN (Cold Blue), he gathers small chamber ensembles that waxes impressionistic airs, conjuring up Tibetan monks and time slipping away. We talk with Michael as well as his cohorts, guitarist Rick Cox, clarinetist Marty Walker and pianist Bryan Pezzone about the music between the notes.

Wednesday 10/10/01
OTTMAR LIEBERT NOUVEAU FLAMENCO ROCK
Ottmar Liebert is known for his innovative flamenco hybrid, but he grew up listening to rock and roll. On a new CD called LITTLE WING (EPIC) he revisits the music of his youth, playing songs by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and the title track by Jimi Hendrix. From his Sante Fe home, Liebert talks about his musical influences as well as the new originals on his album.

Thursday 10/11/01
A REQUIEM SOUNDSCAPE
On the evening of October 11, as America commemorates the one month anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, Echoes will provide a respite from the endless analysis with music for healing and contemplation. In a two hour soundscape, Echoes Senior Producer and host John Diliberto will take a world divided in life and bring it together in sound, with new compositions recorded in the wake of September 11. A Requiem Soundscape will be a space to remember those fallen in the terrorist attacks, the heroic efforts of those who worked in the aftermath, the contemplation of a protracted war, and the recognition of a changed world. Program includes new compositions recorded in response to the tragedy by Steve Roach, Ira Stein, Paul Ellis, Sanjay Mishra, and Jeff Pearce and others.

Friday 10/12/01
ROBERT RICH-NOTES FROM THE BESTIARY
Robert Rich is a musician of many modes, most of them pushed to the edge. We recorded him in a solo piano concert this past spring, but his latest album is his most purely electronic disc in 20 years. It's called BESTIARY and it's a smoldering, morphing expanse of analog synthesizer textures and subsonic grooves. In his Silicon Valley studio, Robert Rich unleashes some of his beasts.
