Vas is Iranian born and Indian raised singer Azam Ali and LA global percussionist Greg Ellis. For the last three years they've been creating an exotic fusion of Azam's hybrid vocalese and Greg's elaborate percussion orchestrations.  They continue their seductive sound on their latest CD, IN THE GARDEN OF SOULS (Narada World).  In their Hollywood Hills home, Vas reveals the seeds of their their melodically rich and rhythmically sensuous music.

Echoes takes a bow to a new brand of cello music, from the electronica designs of Martin Tillman to the ambient chamber music of Ron Clearfield.  We'll hear Bach Preludes re-invented and cellos that look that modern art. It's all cellos on Chock Full of Cellos.

Wednesday November 8, 2000
Earlier this year, synthesist Jonn Serrie and Gary Stroutsos released the album, HIDDEN WORLD (NARADA), an ambient expanse of synthesizer atmospheres and Stroutsos's collection of flutes.  The ony thing is, they had never played together until now, their first ever live performance.  Serrie and Stroutsos commune for the first time on their expansive music in this rare performance, direct from the Echoes Living Room.

Saul Stokes has been called "Popular Mechanics musician of the year" because he builds his own instruments, stylish futuristic constructions of blinking LEDs, patch cords and knobs.  These custom devices give this Philadelphia-based musician a distinctive sound that's been heard on several recordings, including his latest, OUTFOLDING (Hypnos).  Saul uses the flaws and unpredictability of his home-built synthesizers, to provide  the expressiveness typical of acoustic instruments.  Saul Stokes talks about making music from the wires up.
