Echoes Playlist 11/27/00-12/01/00

Following is a listing of the musical selections airing on Echoes for November 27 - December 1, 2000.  The dates on the playlists are the dates the programs are distributed to stations.  Please check the program ID number to verify the program if your station broadcasts the program on a different day than it is distributed.

In order to offer better prices, a wider selection, and such helpful tools as on-line sound clips, we have changed our catalog so that you can now easily purchase CDs from amazon.com. At the end of each entry in the playlist is a "buy" button which will link you to that item in Amazon.com's catalog. They stock almost all of the CDs you hear on Echoes, but if there is no "buy" button, the item is not carried by Amazon at this time. Echoes recieves a portion of each sale if you click through from this site, so please remember to enter amazon.com by linking from Echoes. We rely on your purchases to help us to continue to produce Echoes for Public Radio and the internet.

Features for the Week:

Monday November 27, 2000
MAKYO-ZEN SYNTHESIST
He lives in Tokyo and has a vaguely Asian name, but Makyo is an American musician working a highly cultivated brand of ethno-techno music. He records under the names Makyo and Padmassana and when he isn't in his closet of an apartment melting the walls making exotic albums like SHRINGARA (Dakini) , you might find him DJing a rave at the foot of Mount Fuji. We squeezed into Makyo's studio, where he revealed the influences and confluences of his global electronic soundscapes.

Tuesday November 28, 2000
STATE OF GRACE
On Echoes we enter a State of Grace. We'll be talking with composer Paul Schwartz and singer Lisbeth Scott about their new CD of 21st century gothic hymns called STATE OF GRACE.

Wednesday November 29, 2000
KATE PRICE
Kate Price plays hammered dulcimer and uses it as an entry into a global music landscape. We talk to Kate about her latest CD, THE ISLE OF DREAMING and a musical odyssey that began with Balkan folk dancing.

Thursday November 30, 2000
MIZUYO KOMIYA-BETWEEN THE STRINGS
Mizuyo Komiya is a young Japanese musician playing an ancient Japanese instrument, the koto. Only she doesn't play the traditional 13-stringed version, but a large 25-stringed variation. A zither style instrument that is tuned with moveable bridges, with strings plucked on one side and bent on the other to change their pitch, Komiya weaves a richly detailed soundworld on her latest album, LULLABY (Pacific Moon). In Tokyo, Mizuyo Komiya takes us between the strings.
