SONIC SEASONINGS 2001: LIVING ROOM CONCERTS FOR CHRISTMAS
WITH
WINDHAM HILL'S WINTER SOLSTICE
INCLUDING
WILL ACKERMAN, LIZ STORY AND SAMITE

For 2001 Sonic Seasonings travels to New England where we capture guitarist Will Ackerman, pianist Liz Story and Ugandan musician, Samite. We'll catch these players in an intimate performance in the midst of their Winter Solstice tour, playing two hours of seasonal music and their own, evocative compositions. Sonic Seasonings 2001 captures the spirit and the ambience of the holiday season.

Tuesday 12/25/01
CHRISTMAS ECHOES
The perfect music for digesting that Christmas dinner. We'll hear evocative and inventive renditions of Christmas favorites from artists who are staples of the Echoes soundscape, including R. Carlos Nakai, Jonn Serrie and music from the Windham Hill seasonal collections.

Wednesday 12/26/01
ROBERT RICH: NOTES FROM THE BESTIARY
Robert Rich is a musician of many modes, most of them pushed to the edge. We recorded him in a solo piano concert this past spring, but his latest album is his most purely electronic disc in 20 years. It's called BESTIARY and it's a smoldering, morphing expanse of analog synthesizer textures and subsonic grooves. In his Silicon Valley studio, Robert Rich unleashes some of his beasts.

Thursday 12/27/01
DEAN DE BENEDICTUS: BREAKING THE SURFACE
We know Dean De Benedictus as the man behind Surface 10, creator of ambient electronic sound designs. But now Dean has stepped out under his own name for a music that shares the exotic terrain of Surface 10, but which accomplishes it acoustically. Playing Native American flutes, ocarinas, Balinese flutes and hand percussion, Dean sends them through a maze of electronic processing to create an organic space music on his new album, A LONE REPLY (Fateless). Dean De Benedictus drives cross-country from Los Angeles to talk about his new music.

Friday 12/28/01
GREG ELLIS: GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME
Greg Ellis is one half of the world fusion group Vas. It's his percussion beds that often form the inspiration for singer Azam Ali's vocal flights. On his solo debut, KALA RUPA (Narada), Ellis layers a panoply of ethnic instruments including udu and frame drums, dumbek, tabla and bells, into a trance-inducing, polyrhythmic swirl. On each track he's joined by a soloist playing kamencheh, ney or santoor. In Greg and Azam's studio in Hollywood, Ellis reveals the percussive code behind KALA RUPA
