Paul Winter's album, CELTIC SOLSTICE, was born of a previous Summer Solstice celebration. Echoes host John Diliberto has written of this Grammy-winning album: "Paul Winter has tapped into the communal nature of Irish music. It's the same spirit he takes from his jazz background. When he joins the pipes and whistles in dizzying improvisations or contemplative ruminations, there's a sense of shared exploration that takes you with him" (John Diliberto reviewing CELTIC SOLSTICE for Amazon.com) Read more about Paul Winter's music |
| Paul Winter's Seventh Annual Summer Solstice Celebration in June of 2000 included three of the musicians featured in his CELTIC SOLSTICE album - Irish vocalist Karan Casey, Uilleann-piper Jerry O'Sullivan, and guitarist Zan McLeod - and two celebrated Armenian musicians: vocalist/percussionist Arto Tuncboyaciyan, and Vardan Grigoryan, a young virtuoso of the traditional instruments duduk and zurna. Both are featured in the JOURNEY WITH THE SUN album. The ensemble also included long-time Paul Winter Consort members Eugene Friesen on cello and Eliot Wadopian on bass; keyboardist Jim Beard; and Cathedral organist Dorothy Papadakos. |
